About
The Canadian Symposium on Home Economics Education continues to grow in its representation of Canadian home economics as well as increasingly drawing in international home economists - academics and practitioners. Usually offered in a location across Canada, 2021 saw the first virtual Symposium due to COVID-19. No country has remained unaffected by the pandemic. Everyday practices of personal hygiene, especially handwashing, as well as social distancing and wearing of face masks remain the best protective strategies.
Although there are more relaxed practices emerging, COVID-19 continues. To support participation, the 17th Canadian Symposium will be offered in hybrid mode.
The focus of the Symposium has been to provide a forum for sharing information and research, and to action planning that strengthens home economics/family studies/human ecology/family and consumer science education. During the pandemic the need for home economics knowledge, skills and practices has been brought to the fore. This Symposium will be an opportunity to:
Share the insights and experiences of our work under difficult circumstances;
Acknowledge home economists whose work contributes to development and global education; and
Rethink and extend Dr. Eleanore Vaines’ work around home economics and her conceptualization of ecology.
